Across the United States, red-light running fatalities are on a decline – down 21 percent since 2007. Red-light safety cameras have helped to positively change driver behavior in over 550 communities and continue to deter red-light runners and save lives.
However, the problem persists and lives are lost because of dangerous decisions made by reckless drivers. Let this video compilation of red-light running collisions in 2012 serve as a reminder to keep aware when approaching an intersection.
Please take the time to pledge to STOP on RED in 2013 and encourage your loved ones to do the same. It’s a New Year’s resolution that benefits everyone sharing the roadways.
The National Coalition for Safer Roads (NCSR) helps save lives and protect communities by demonstrating how red-light safety cameras can improve driver behavior.
In 2009 more than 214 Washingtonians lost their lives in speed and red-light running related collisions – more than half of those fatalities occurred at an intersection. Thanks to red-light safety cameras, driver behavior is now improving in the state of Washington.
